Private Tour of Montmartre

The “Montmartre” tour immediately reminds us of the famous Basilica of the Sacred Heart which overlooks the city of Paris from the hill of Montmartre.

This Church, with its purely white domes, is a union of several architectural styles and will be the first destination of our guided tour: a building between sacred and profane, welcomes everyday crowds of pilgrims and a great number of curious tourists from all over the world. This little headland to north of the Seine was called “the Mountain of the Martyrs” because it became the martyrdom of the first Christians in Roman times.

Among those there’s the famous Saint Denis: first bishop of Paris, he was persecuted for his Christian faith and finally beheaded. Since that, there’s a legends according to which the saint martyr was such a brave man that he carried his own head from the hill top to the river banks.

The guided tour of Montmartre still keeps its spiritual and mysterious aura from which the crazy generation of artists between XIX and XX centuries found inspiration for their important works; the music by Erik Satie, the innovative painting of Picasso as well as Rimbaud and Verlaine’s “damned” poetry.

This quarter used to be inhabited by several famous writers who built together the myth of Montmartre’s world characterized by subversive and transgressive ideals that nurtured the dream of a “bohemian life”.

With our “Montmartre” tour you will travel through the picturesque and artistic places of that village which has kept its genuine and charming appearance.

“Excellent and professional!”
I’m a travel agent and I took a small group in Paris last December. I discovered Parigirando surfing on the Net and I chose them for some guided tours in Paris and Versailles. They are cheaper and Simone and Sara are really brilliant, fascinating, cheerful and helpful guides.

“A+”
I decided to bring my son in Paris to realize his (and mine) dream to see the Eiffel tower. I wished an easy and tailored holiday: it was just so thanks to Parigirando! Simone took us two afternoons in Paris, we did tours especially conceived for a 7 years old kid; my son felt really fascinated by the tour…

“Living a fairy tale in Paris”
I’m a teacher and I have been in Paris with a few collegues and pupils. Unfortunately, we couldn’t book neither d’Orsay nor Louvre museums. Simone helped us to solve our problem.

About Sara

Since she was a baby, since she could touch her home library books for the first time, Sara has developed a great interest for archaeology, anthropology, art and beauty in all its forms, from painting to music, from fashion to food.

Once grown up, she decided to make of all her passions a true job, so that she could share her passions and once at university, in Venice, she turned from historical researcher into tourist guide and personal shopper.

When she moved to Paris, she gained the tourist guide card, so she could convey to travellers her passion for the thousand sides of the VilleLumière. She can lead them into the genuine heart of Parisian life, guiding them to discover the most famous or unusual places, from huge boulevards to narrow medieval streets, high fashion boutiques and small shops, great monuments and traces from the past.

Lover of antiques, good wine and good food, she’s in love with the stories of people who made Paris great, too.

She will make you live again the history of the French capital city through anecdotes, legends and peculiarities. You’ll discover monuments and museums in an art historian perspective, and you’ll never get bored.

Why not admire Versailles, the vacuity of Impressionism, the jewish quarter, and why not a good croissant in one of the best patisseries in town?
